I can so relate to this comment.
My husband and I were part of a G 12 church for almost 10 years; they got into the G 12 vision after we had already been going there for about 6 years. Reading about other people having bad experiences with G 12 really bothers me, because it tore our family apart, and I know it's spreading like wild-fire all over the planet. I want to warn people, but my son may disown me if I get too vocal (or post stuff online) and he and his wife are expecting our first grandchild in June, so it's hard for me to know what to do....
I have been a born again Christian for the past 37 years, and before that was raised in the Lutheran church. It's astonishing to me that people like my husband and I could be fooled into thinking that this vision was really from God. But after all, as has been pointed out to me, we are living in the last days, and the Bible says that many false prophets will arise and will seduce if it were possible, even the elect.
I keep praying for my son, that he will be delivered from the mind control he is under....it is hard to see him being manipulated and exploited by the system he is entrenched in, serving the leaders, all the while thinking he is serving God.

Reading this re-inforces my doubts and issues with organized religion as a whole. If there is an angle, the criminal mind will find it. Te actions of some of these "Pastors" not only straddles, but crosses over to the criminal. Not even addressing the ethical and moral issue brought to the fore by their questionable character and actions. I see too many willing to fall for this con. Sad, very sad that not even the "sacred" is sacred anymore.

"Obey & Submit"

Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that [is] unprofitable for you. (Heb. 13:17) KJV

This is a passage that Witmer and his deceptive type love to twist. Let's look at the Strong's Concordance for further insight.

Obey: transliteration...

1) persuade
a) to persuade, i.e. to induce one by words to believe
b) to make friends of, to win one's favour, gain one's good will, or to seek to win one, strive to please one
c) to tranquillise
d) to persuade unto i.e. move or induce one to persuasion to do something

2) be persuaded
a) to be persuaded, to suffer one's self to be persuaded; to be induced to believe: to have faith: in a thing

1) to believe

2) to be persuaded of a thing concerning a person

b) to listen to, obey, yield to, comply with

3) to trust, have confidence, be confident
http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G3982&t=KJV

Submit: Transliteration...

1) to resist no longer, but to give way, yield (of combatants)

2) metaph. to yield to authority and admonition, to submit
http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G5226&t=KJV

It seems to me you must have trust, confidence, prior to listening, yielding or complying with one in authority. Should we blindly submit to the unproven because they have a title or to one who violates trust? Heaven forbid! We should never be persuaded to believe words induced by demagogic leaders who have to have a business card with their title and have to constantly remind people of their position and self-assumed authority.

Christ alone is the Head of the Body and the Husband is the head of the family...PERIOD!!!

As a person from the Yuma area, I'm familiar with this "church" and it's tactics. In my opinion, any religion that emphasizes monetary growth over spiritual and moral growth, is not by definition a church. It is a fund raising organization. This parish also uses ambush like tactics to bring worshipers into the fold. If you've ever been to one of their haunted houses, or community events, you've been in the middle of their prayer circles in which you cannot leave until you give in to their thinking. Being cornered and surrounded does not make me feel safe or make me want to become involved. It makes me feel creeped out and want to run away.

I have never attended Generations, but my 19 year old sister currently is. I am worried about her and pray for her soul. I have tried to talk to her about this so-called church, but she won't listen to me. (We used to be pretty close.) She has attended for several months now, and has been to an encounter. Since then, she is not the same person she was before. Our whole family has noticed the change in her. She is more argumentative, always on the defense. Before "G", she had dreams of the AirForce. She actually enlisted, took her oath and was waiting for Basic Training, she was so excited. However, I think this church did something to her, they killed her dreams and put out the fire she once had inside her. She decided she wanted out of the AF, and she was given a discharge from her Delayed Entry Program. I'm so saddened that this church has taken her dreams from her and made her into someone I don't recognize anymore. I've asked her, begged her to go to church with me, to see what a REAL church is like. She refuses. Please help me, help her. Any advice?

Speaking as a former member from the old days in Somerton, as we moved to Yuma, we watched Pastor Tim go from "guru" to "guru", trying to find that magic something that enable us to reach more people. He never did and the G12 snared him.

Many of the G12 components seemed to be good, including the concept of giving, but the spiritual manipulations that goes with it is what drove so many away.

Just prior to the implosion of the River, Pastor Tim had finally given the indication that finally the church would give up the G12 model and go back to being more of a family type church.

But the desire to be aligned with the "cool churches and leaders" combined with a lack of understanding of what we could be as a church was too much. He did a 180 and betrayed 6 months of work in a weekend.

Generations took over the church building after all the tithe payers left and promptly sold it to the Spanish church for many times what the River paid for it. As I understand, one of the considerations for getting it at such a great price in the beginning was that if the River ever sold it, they would bless the church that bought with a great price as well. That did not happen of course.

My personal opinion is that G12 is driven by personal ambition and greed.

Its too bad, the River could have been one of the great ones. There was a lot of great potential.

I suspect he feels like all of us that left betrayed him, but the truth is that we lived through several years of spiritual manipulation hoping that things would change and just as it began to change for the better, bang, the tables got turned on us and we were the ones betrayed.

Thank God there are people and churches in this town that have taken the walking wounded in and cared for them. As near as I can tell, most if not all the former River members have found good churches to call home and seem to be doing pretty well considering all the stress and turmoil they endured over the years.
